Originally announced on January 2018, When Google provided site webmasters 6 months to speed up their websites. This grace period has passed, and page speed is now an official ranking factor.
Why is site speed so important to Google? Because it is important to its users. Studies show improved user satisfaction when using fast sites. Satisfaction is measured using various indicators such as session length, conversion rate, etc.
Since a mobile connections is usually slower than a desktop connection, it’s only natural Google decided to focus on mobile users – directing them to faster sites thus providing them with a better experience.
Important note: this update only targets slow sites. Making a fast site go even faster will not improve its rank.
If your site has been affected by this update, simply make it load faster. Using Google’s official tools is a good place to start!
