The e-commerce update is an unofficial update to Google’s search engine. Speculations about this update range from being an update which affects e-commerce websites, to a mobile device website accessibility related update. The more common assumption is that the update is related to e-commerce websites.
Searchmetrics’s analysis presents a number of interesting points:
- Generic phrases with a high search volume displayed a lot of changes in search results.
- Other phrases that were strongly affected are brand name typos (e.g. addidas). It seems that some of the spam that used to appear in these results was replaced by results that are more relevant for the real brand.
There are no known concrete steps to be taken following this update.
